Installed the Geniatech PCI tv tuner card into a system with Windows XP SP3 OS, core 2 duo 3 GHz CPU, and 2 GB RAM. A video card supporting Microsoft DirectX 9.0c is required. After turning on the computer, the OS recognized the new hardware, and requested CD with drivers. During driver installation, the OS warns that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing; click on "Continue Anyway" and the drivers are installed. The "Software Install" screen appears. After installation of the DirectX software, it was necessary to reboot. After the system rebooted, and Windows XP was restarting, the system hung up, showing a blank screen. Rebooted a few times with the same result. As a remedy, rebooted into "Safe Mode" by pressing and holding "F8" key during boot-up. This solved the problem. Next, installed the media center software, ArcSoft TotalMedia, included in the installation CD. The package includes a remote control requiring two AAA batteries not included in the package. It is necessary to plug-in the remote control cable with infrared sensor at the other end of the cable to allow line-of-sight remote control. Next, the remote control would not work; after testing the batteries to make sure they were good, turned to the installation CD to locate the infrared sensor driver, and installed it by clicking on the setup icon. An indoor digital antenna was attached to the tv tuner card BNC input and with the TotalMedia software, scanned the available channels, it worked, but an outdoor antenna would pick up more channels. Next, attached an "analog Cable" to test the QAM tuner; after a channel scan, got considerably more channels. The ArcSoft TotalMedia software works great, it allows recording to the current user's My Documents/My Videos folder. It is not possible to record one channel and view another channel at the same time. Video recordings are "software" encoded to mpeg; ergo a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz CPU or higher is required. The package includes an FM antenna, and the software includes a "Radio" FM digital tuner, which allows for listening and recording from the tv tuner card. The installation is not for a novice; but in my system the tv tuner card with ancillary software, works great.

Sakar 30690 Digital Camera Silver Review

Sakar 30690 Digital Camera Silver

This camcorder is reliable and really easy to use! There are some problems with it though, like the fact you can't see what you are taking a picture of or making a video of. It's really light in weight, but that make it really hard to keep it still. the microphone is not very sensitive, so quiet sounds will not pick up so it will make your video sound silent. for a little more money you could get a camcorder that has a viewing screen and far more memory. it hasonly 16MB of memory, and it's flash memory so if the battery dies or you chance the batterys before you load the your picture or videos to the computer it will disappear.Overall this is a great camera if you can overlook the drawbacks and quirks.

this humax tivo has all the same functionality as a regular tivo (as far as i know). it works flawlessly. i installed a wireless usb adapter so that i could hook it up to my network and it worked without a problem. i did need a phone line to set it up initially, but this isn't usually a problem for most people.there is no noise coming from the machine and it isn't cheap at all. it appears very solid and i am really glad i bought it.

I spent a great deal of time installing cameras for one of these DVRs (for home security) only to find out that the DVR did not work.Silly me, I called tech support only to find that Swann is an Australian company so their tech support is never open when anyone except for American vampires or long-haul truckers might be awake.By using the Swann website, I've found that the HD is defective and Swann will not replace it unless I pay to return the unit to them. This company does not stand behind it's products.Do not buy this DVR.You should absolutely not rely on a piece of junk like this for any sense of security for life, property, or business.

Panasonic RR-US500 Compact IC Recorder with USB Cradle and Voice Editing Software Review

Panasonic RR-US500 Compact IC Recorder with USB Cradle and Voice Editing Software

I was suckered into this by the small form factor. The sound quality is mediocre, but it was sufficient. What's really horrible is the software. It's ugly and takes too many clicks to do things thanks to its poor design.Guess what, though? You're stuck using it.These Panasonic recorders record in their own proprietary format, not standard like wav or MP3.You actually need to use their software to transfer and decode the files. It doesn't implement something as simple and user friendly like USB Mass Storage (like the Olympus recorders do).Lost the software?Good luck.Unlike every other device maker that provides their software for free, Panasonic makes you pay $65 for another copy. Thanks for showing your true colors with this device, Panasonic.I'm never buying another Panasonic device ever again.

DAVAL DIGITAL PHONE RECORDER Review

DAVAL DIGITAL PHONE RECORDER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product to record podcasts from voice calls over my regular land line. This product is really hard to use, the recording quality is very poor, and the software that accompanies it is very poorly written.

On the product itself, it is an interesting design. It is compact, and when I first opened the package, it felt like it was a very high quality product.

The recording process is a bit quirky, but once I got past that, I recorded a one-hour conference call. The first 10 minutes were a bit scratchy, but acceptable, the next 50 minutes is nothing by noise.I have no idea what happened during the process.I recorded another call and a similar result -- partial recording, with noise and interference the entire rest of the call.

The software that accompanies feels like an application written back in 1991 for Windows 3.0. (It looks like fileman for those of you who were using that years ago and it works much the same.)The messages on screen are weird.

It would seem a product that sells for $100 bucks would be at least built for the year 2008.It was disappointing to use this product because I had high expectations for the product.

Careful on this one.

Machspeed Trio 2 GB MP3 Player with Voice Recorder & Thumb Drive Review

Machspeed Trio 2 GB MP3 Player with Voice Recorder & Thumb Drive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using it for about 2 months now and it's working pretty good for me.I use this more than I use my Toshiba F40 believe it or not.

The good:
1. Easy to get music on it - No proprietary software to load, no proprietary format to "convert" in and out of.You just copy over your MP3's & go.
2. Data storage - You can carry just one device now & not have to lug around a USB key & MP3 player separate.
3. USB plug right on device - You just plug the thing in and don't need any cables or other garbage.
4. Normal battery - You don't have to worry about charging a battery, it's 1 AAA battery. When it's dead you can just dump it and put in a new one.
5. Small size

The bad
1. No power-off memory - When you turn it off, it doesn't remember where you were in a song/podcast.If you're 1/2 way through a 2 hour podcast and have to turn it off, you have to "fast" forward back to where you left off. This is a big issue for podcast listeners
2. Fast forward - Because of the above you end up fast forwarding a lot, and fast forward on this is really "slow" forward. Also, the control is tiny and hard to use.It needs a knob on the end of the dial ro something. If it can't remember where you left off, it should at least make it easy to get back to it, but it doesn't.
3. Long boot time - Turning on the device the "welcome" screen is up for about 20-30 seconds, this should be INSTANT on.
4. Battery Life - 1 AAA battery is only good for 3 hours. It's good that you can change it because it dies so fast.

Overall I'm happy with it, but think a few small tweaks are needed to make it great.

Centon 1GB USB 2.0 Digital MP3 WMA Player Voice Recorder Flash Drive Review

Centon 1GB USB 2.0 Digital MP3 WMA Player Voice Recorder Flash Drive
Average Reviews:

This thing is awesomely loaded ... fm radio, voice recorder, mp3 playback, lyric display with .lrc files, multilanguage menus (including Trad and Simp Chinese, which is not on some of the other models? or was added to this model later?), multispeed playback (e.g. stretch an 1 min mp3 to 2 minutes or speed through in 30 secs) **BUT** operating it is not very intuitive and the documentation that comes with it is terrible.Centon has an on-line forum to ask questions, but I was not able to register in 3 attempts.Battery life is okay, at least 5 hrs on a rechargable AAA, I usually recharge before the indicator gets half empty. There is an annoying pause with a 'Please wait' message when you first start it up.Not sure how/if you can get the unit to play items in sorted by filename. There is a menu item for a Playlist, which uses A3L format files.I have no idea what that is but it is not plain text like .m3u.

If they would have thrown me a bone with the documentation (fix the forum or include a decent manual) or if it had an SD slot (it doesn't) I would have given it a 5 despite the boondongle operating procedures.

Oh yeah, the thing has a USB connector built-in (like a thumb drive), the cover comes off complete and is easily misplaced. You need to remove the USB cover and another cover to replace the battery, but meh no big deal.

Panasonic DMR-EZ17K DVD Recorder with ATSC Tuner Black Review

Panasonic DMR-EZ17K DVD Recorder with ATSC Tuner Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using my new DMR-EZ17K for around a week now. As expected for the price, it's got some features that are great, and some that are not. Here are the unexpectedly positive highlights:

(1) The ATSC tuner picks up perfect widescreen digital over-the-air channels, under conditions where an analog NTSC tuner can receive mostly only static and snow. This feature alone - even without the DVD recorder - nearly justifies the cost of this unit.

(2) The quality of the recorded image in LP mode (4 hours) is truly exceptional - it's nearly indistinguishable from the original 480p off-air HD digital signal. Kudos to Panasonic for this one.

(3) Using 480p outputs, and playing a downsampled off-air digital HD widescreen recording (EDTV), the recorded image quality nearly equals that of a 780p digitally-upsampled standard (non-HD) DVD. From 8 feet away on a non-huge screen, the image looks nearly as good as a true HD broadcast.

(4) Plays and/or displays JPEGs and MP3s burned to CD (but not DVD).

(5) With a certain amount of fiddling, and the use of the proper recordable medium (DVD-RAM), you can achieve chase-playback and "pause live TV" capabilities. While not nearly as convenient or seamless as a TiVo, it *can* be done with this recorder.

(6) With the use of the proper recordable medium (DVD-RAM), you can record one TV program while watching another (or the same) recorded program. Combine that with the 60-second commercial-skip button, and you might just never have to watch another commercial again. Nice!

Negative highlights:

(1) Panasonic seems to have maliciously omitted certain 'free' features merely for marketing parity or to cost-justify the other products in its lineup. Examples include an HDMI output connector and digital upsampling - features found even on $35 Chinese DVD players.

(2) Even though this unit includes an ATSC tuner, which picks up high-definition terrestrial signals by default, Panasonic has chosen to disallow the received high-definition signals from being passed through to a connected HD monitor. Live signal video quality is needlessly reduced/downsampled to 480p, which is standard definition (but digital) EDTV.

(3) It literally takes 10 seconds to change digital channels.

(4) The ability to record the free, on-air Dolby-Digtal 5.1 signal broadcast with certain HD programming seems intentionally crippled, perhaps for anti-piracy reasons. This recorder down-samples the 6 digital channels to only 2 (ordinary stereo) when recording. So you can never record off-air Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. You can, however, play it back when viewing commercial DVDs, using the built-in optical output (no cable included, of course).

(5) No digital inputs OR COMPONENT VIDEO inputs; the highest quality external video you can record is S-Video! There are also no digital video outputs whatsoever, although the component video output quality is decent, and there is a DV input for your camcorder.

(6) The manual is sketchy; while comprehensive and well-illustrated, it still contains some remnants of Asian grammar, and resolutely refuses to explain any usage models or DVD recording theory, focusing instead on acronyms and a context-free explanation of the minutae of each individual button and menu option. You will need to be thoroughly familiar with DVD recording and digital video concepts and theory BEFORE attempting to use this unit effectively, or the manual WILL NOT make complete sense.

(7) No digital zoom during playback means you can't always eliminate the horizontal or vertical black bars present on most widescreen analog (NTSC) broadcasts or recordings.

Overall, due to the ATSC tuner and superb EP recording quality, this recorder is a fantastic buy. I would buy it again.

Sony M-570V Microcassette Voice Recorder
Average Reviews:

I bought this tape recorder less than a year ago and I am already in the market for another one. First of all, don't believe the product description. This would be terrible for recording lectures. Even if you are right up against your interview subject, if there is other noise in the room you will not pick his voice up clearly.
Recently, interviews have started to be cut off in the middle with the rest of the tape white noise.
And if you are outdoors, if there is a slight breeze, all you will hear is the roar of the wind. (But no voice.)
Yuck.
