Swann Mobile Viewer SW-G-MVIEW 2.4GHz 2.5 LCD Color Screen 4 Channel Security Camera LCD Receiver Review

Swann Mobile Viewer SW-G-MVIEW 2.4GHz 2.5 LCD Color Screen 4 Channel Security Camera LCD Receiver

This device is easy to use and set up.

Here's what I like:
- Basically, it works
- It's compact
- The picture is clear
- With the infra-red camera I got to go with it, it sees at night!
- It works with up to four cameras (but you have to switch it between them - it won't scan)

Here's what I don't like:
- Reception is intermittent. The base unit appears to be VERY sensitive to orientation and proximity of other electronics.
- Without the cradle, it's not very stable on a desktop
- It comes with a cradle, but when it's in the cradle, the AC adapter doesn't work. The AC adapter only works plugged directly into the unit, and because of the location of the plug, it cannot be plugged in and sit in the cradle (which offers great stability) at the same time.I found an after-market AC adapter to work around this, but it should come with an adapter so you don't need to go buy one.

Surprisingly versatile little unit. From ~4 weeks of use, everything seems to be working as advertised. The network and DDNS services seem to work well although installation across a wireless LAN was not for the faint of heart.(Hint - to use the client viewer within your LAN, use your internal IP address, not your DDNS.)I had to figure out port forwarding and related issues on my own, as I never did get a response from "customer service."Picture resolution (esp. IR) is a little grainy but within tolerance. The network client / viewer is a little simplistic and could use an upgrade. The software interface with the DVR is very elementary and could use a major upgrade, but again, within tolerance.I would probably buy it again.Overall I would give this unit a solid B, but I would give Lorex customer service a failing grade.

I first bought the LW2702 wireless system. It would not carry a signal 50 feet through my vinyl sided 1/2 inch sheathed split level.I called Lorex and they wanted to send me a new system right away.In the mean time, I looked over their website snd found this.I decided to try this system since Lorex was so suportive. It is even less expensive than the LW2702.

Four cameras, a 32 bit card and software that sends email alerts and a snapshot; plus you can access the system on the internet via a ddns net run by Lorex.THIS seemed to solve every concern I had; I did not just want to discourage and record, I wanted a system that would email us while we were on vacation and that we could use to call the police.

I decided to put 3 cameras in the house in logical traffic areas. These will be set to alert us.The fourth will go outside to capture vehicle traffic in the drive.

The software allows each camera to be programmed seperately; alert types, when to record, etc.You can also set up schedules for each camera alert and monitor function; for example, basement shop every night between midnight and 5 AM; bedroom hallway every workday from 8AM to 3PM; and all inside cameras for the two week vacation while leaving the driveway camera always set to record activity without sending alerts.Pretty powerful stuff.

You neeed to precisely follow the instructions for setting up internet access which allows you full control of your monitoring system. It took a day for the internet to register my system domain; but it works.

OK, the mediocre.Although Server 2000 is supported, it will not run on windows home server.Or, it must be installed on any 32 bit winXP or higher system.IT CANNOT run on 64 bit; needs a new card plus new software.

There are is one irksome quirk, which is worked around by using internet access. The program window has NO minimize/size/maximize/close icons in the upper right corner. Also not present with a right click. It settles in the upper left corner of your monitor and CANNOT be dragged someplace else (like your second monitor with extended desktop).SInce you access your system via IE (have not yet tired Firefox), you CAN relocate the display and controls since you simply drag the IE window where you want.

We live in a rural area with a lot of ground floor windows.I have always been skeptical of alarm company monitoring services.THIS system allows me to verify for myself what is happening and to call the police; or, since I have a computer based phone answering machine (left very loud so we can hear it thoughout the house) I can call the house and deliver a pretty creepy warning to whover is in the house.

Each camera is provided with a 60 foot video and power cable. This works well for my interior cameras, but I will need an extension for my driveway camera.

I only installed this last week; but I have tested it pretty hard and it works so far.Turns out I am glad the LW2702 did not work as expected; while it would have captured events the LW2702 cannot send out alertsnor provide the control of this system. The "downside" is that you have to run wires to your computer and you must have a computer that is always on and configured to reboot after a power failure.

Plus, you can check the house from ANY computer anywhere in the world either with IE or the provided client software.

AS far as I concerned, this beats paying a monitoring service $10 a month.I hope it continues to work.

At first it started to work great and I could see clearly on the screen but after a month or two, the screen started getting darker and darker and now I can't see anything on it. I still use it because the sound that comes through is ok and I can hear when people pull in the driveway... but it's not too convenient since leaves rustling in the wind sounds like a car pulling into the rocky driveway.

Save your money and buy something that will work more than a few months.

Full featured system suitable for home or small business. All features work as advertized.Camera quality is well below what you get from an inexpensive camcorder; poor color and contrast; limited use at night.Wired alarm in/out terminals are very fragile making the system unreliable if placed where it may get moved.Monitor quality is excellent when used as a computer monitor.Set up is easily done as do-it-yourself, except for networking features which will require some computer knowledge.Installation instructions are accurate though somewhat abbreviated.Quickstart guide is excellent.Free DNS server and e-mail forwarding included.Remote viewing over internet is fast and full featured.System is complete, nothing else to buy.

Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring and Recording System with 4 Weatherproof Mini Cameras (Black) Review

Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring and Recording System with 4 Weatherproof Mini Cameras
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent the better part of a day installing, setting up, and experimenting with the Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring system. My conclusion is that the hardware seems to be solid and reliable but that without a service subscription of $8/mo the product has limited use and appeal. The only features available without a service subscription are viewing recorded video (DVR) and live video. The event detection features that make the Archerfish different are not available. The box itself is pretty locked down and is not accessible in ANY WAY AT ALL from your local lan.

Combined with an extremely high up-front cost (approx $1,000 - $1,200) it's difficult to recommend it. What follow are some of my more detailed notes:

Packaging Contents
*Everything needed is included in the box: AC Adapters, cables, ethernet cable
*No printed instructions in the box but everything is easily available on linePhysical Setup
*Easy to setup/connect cables
*Camera mount needs wrench since they can't be threaded by hand
*Cameras have big bulky heavy adapters instead of lighter ones.
*No easy way to mount cameras level. No visual indicators on camera and video delays makes it tougher
*5 separate AC adaptors! Instead of powering cameras from receiver they need to be powered individually with their own AC AdapterRegistration
*Must provide credit card even for the basic subscription or the free 3 month subscriptionSoftware Setup
*Can't setup a static ip for the device.
*It does not seem to be possible to access the device directly via your local LAN.
*All access must be through the Archerfish website
*Even with UPNP turned off it's very easy to configure your firewall and only one NAT rule is needed to be able to what video remotelyUse
*Only one camera available for live video at a time. It really would have been nice to see all cameras at once.
*There are long delays for live video 5-6 sec from local 8+ seconds from internet
*No way to just use this on local network to view the cameras. Everything needs to be done from the Archerfish website.
*Only records to external USB. No hard drive. limited online storage
*The external USB device is formatted with an ext3 file system. It's a pain for windows users because they can't read this format by default.Event Configuration
*Up to 3 zones per camera can be established.
*Events are only on a per day range (intra is possible) and cannot overlap. You need to add multiple zones for the same range.
*No notifications or search or motion etc. w/o premium subscriptionPricing
*Amazon $1200
*If purchased independently from Amazon the four cameras would cost $260 - $330 (including all accessories)
*$870 ($1200 - $330) is a lot to pay for a device that has no hard drive, cannot be accessed from your network, and requires a paid subscription to make use of all of its

features and reliance on a the vendor to use at all. Imagine buying a computer and only being able to use it as long as the company was in business and offered a service.Quality
*Video quality is Ok. Nothing great. Some of the other cameras I have used from Axis offer much, much better video quality
*No audio. This might be fine for surveillance but home users may be interested in Audio since this can be useful as a baby monitor or a monitor inside the home.Security and Privacy
*All of the video that is recorded by the Quattro (except for the DVR function where it just records all the cams all the time) is stored on the Archerfish website.
*Archerfish does not provide any information about how they safeguard the data. All they say is that their portal is secure and their servers are hosted.
*There is no mention of encryption

Average Reviews:

For the record, I also own the Logitech WiLife Digital Video Security--Hidden Master System Camera so I can do some comparisons for setup and picture quality and features.

The Lorex is extremely easy to setup. You just have to plug in the base station device, plug in and mount the camera, insert the memory card and you're all but done with setup. At least physical setup. Before you allow the receiver to go on recording, you will want to set it up using the on screen menus (you must use the supplied AV cable and connect to a TV for this). This device uses composite connections for video/audio to your TV. Using the remote, press the menu button. From here you can easily pair a new device (if you have more than one camera; if just one camera the DVR and the camera are already paired), setup a schedule for recording (say if you want to record a specific place 24/7 or just during an 8 hour day), adjust the date/time and so on. Everything is rather simple and shouldn't be too difficult to understand.

The picture quality. I find that the quality of the picture, even with perfect signal strength from the camera, isn't that great. The images are washed out. Before you say "well it IS a security camera," this is an instance where I can compare this device to the Logitech Wi-Life system. The camera with the Wi-Life system auto adjusts it's colors whereas and looks decent; this device seems to only have a single setting and the images are OK to messy. Black shirts appear washed out blue which doesn't happen with the Wi-Life.

One thing this system has when compared to the Wi-Life, other than a better starting price, is a camera with built in infrared imaging. The Wi-Life has infrared only as a kind of expensive add on. With the Lorex system, this option is part of the system. The images from infrared are very good (they are black and white, but that's the nature of infrared).

Another thing this system has over the Wi-Life system is it doesn't require a PC to record. The Wi Life will ONLY record if you have it paired to software installed on a PC. I have a laptop setup in my house, hidden, that does my Wi-Life recording for me.

One thing the Wi-Life has that this system does not however is remote viewing. I can sit in my office at work, log into the Wi-Life system using Logitech's software, and see what is going on with any of the cameras setup around my house. With the Lorex, there is no such feature available on this model. You have to have the device with you or have the memory card with you. The Wi-Life can also be setup to email you if there is motion detected, another feature the Lorex system clearly lacks.

I have, however, experienced some issues with this unit. First, there seems to be a short in my power cable for the DVR. Any movement can cause the system to cycle power. This brings me to my second problem. I didn't realize this was happening and I removed the included memory card... while it was rebooting, and it has apparently damaged the card to the point of no longer being recognized as a device either in the DVR itself or in my PC. I plan on contacting their customer service department to see what can be done. Before deciding on this system or the Wi-Life, decide on what features you need. If remote viewing/access is required, this is NOT the system for you. If recording in the dark is required and you don't want to spend a lot of money, purchase this system. If you already have a PC you leave on all day, the Wi-Life may be the better option. If you don't want to invest in a new computer and leave it on all day, the Lorex is the way to go.

Either system will allow you to copy files to another media (CD, DVD, USB stick, etc) to hand off to law enforcement in case the unthinkable does happen. Picture quality on either system is OK and detailed enough to ID someone as well. The only difference is the Lorex is cheaper but also lacks some features found on the Wi Life.Over all I'm satisfied with the product. I will likely keep my Wi Life system setup but augment it with the Lorex for areas I don't want/need remote viewing.

For me, as long as I can get
