I've owned a few of these DVR cards, none delivered everything that they promised like this one does. Access over the internet is a breeze, I can really monitor my business from anywhere in the world where I have internet access. all the features are functional and I'm very pleased with this product.

Product Description:
PART NUMBER: GV-1480 (D-Type)Guaranteed 100% Genuine GeoVision Product GeoVision manufactures one of the most advanced and reliable video surveillance hardware and software products in the industry that are covered with 3 years warranty. Each card comes with the free and feature rich surveillance software (version 8.12)GeoVision provides you with advanced recording, back up, search and motion detection options which you can use both at the DVR physical location or remotely over the Internet. Compare to other cards in the industry, GeoVision is extremely stable, easy to use and install. They have a great support team here in United States. You can setup and program each camera separately. You can view all 16 cameras at the same time or view only the cameras you choose to view. You search and backup recorded view by date, time and event such as when motion detection was activated. Motion detection is done through the card so you don't need to have a motion detection camera. You can set motion detection sensitivity on each camera or set some cameras to do round clock recording and some cameras on motion detection and you can set the times for each recording as well per camera. This listing is for a factory sealed product which included the card, CD, Audio & Video Cables and watchdog jumper wires.

I mainly purchased this system because it was web ready with the ability to view live feeds from your smart phone.Setup was easy and I was viewing live video feeds through my iPhone in no time.Keep in mind; I have an IT background so it may be more difficult for others to setup.

The 4 cameras have quality night vision and built-in motion detection. As with the previous review, I could not get the system to send me email alerts FROM my Gmail account because Gmail requires encrypted authentication. The CV500 DVR does not support encryption.I got around this by using my [...] email which doesn't require encryption. This is only for sending email; you can still specify any valid email address as the recipient.I send the alerts to my Gmail account which is tethered to my iPhone so the results are still what I wanted.

Additionally, unlike the previous review, I was able to setup a motion schedule. You can setup 5 different schedules, each customizable by the hour for every day of the week. You have three recording options:Full Record, Alarm Record, and No Record. The "Alarm Record" records when motion is detected. Each camera can be set on a different schedule.I have my internal cameras set to record motion during the hours I'm normally at work. The external cameras are set on motion recording 24/7.You can also setup a motion grid for each camera. For example, one of my exterior cameras points down the driveway and into the street.I specify only to detect motion in my driveway so it doesn't record every time someone walks by on the sidewalk.

I didn't setup the FTP option but it works exactly like the email option. When a camera is in "Alert Record" mode, it will send video to your FTP site when enabled.

All in all, I'm very happy with the product. It took some readying to figure out the more complicated features (motion grid, schedules, etc), but everything was explained very well in the manual.

This is something I really have been wanting for a few years.I use to have a avermedia stand alone DVR which was good but limited features.I bought aGV-650 4 channel with BNC inputs. This was the best 300.00 i spent and its just what i needed. With this card it brought my 4 cameras around my house to life. There are so many features with this software that you'll probably never use some of them. The best thing i like about this card & software is the customization you can do.through the software you can pinpoint and mark the areas you want to pick up & record. you can also block out areas in your area you don't want to pick up.It also has advanced recording capabilities. You can also hook up some computer speakers and have a sound alert you when the cameras are activated.I have a 250gb hard drive and with the motion dtection set 24/7 I have only used 6 gb. in the last week. i'd say thats pretty good. The installation was very easy just plug the card into an empty PCI slot, hook up the cameras, load the software and your ready to go.this is my 3rd surveillancesystem and this is by far the best and very user friendly. With the GV650 system you have so many options & features. One of my favorite features is object tracking. Which you can set a certain area and it will record activity. So when i come home from work i can go to that module and review whos been around my property and have it on video. it also has face detection where it will lock onto the persons face. For the best picture quality i would reccomend a good graphics card,LCD screen with DVI inputs for the best picture possible.I hope this helps someone in there purchase.

Surprisingly versatile little unit. From ~4 weeks of use, everything seems to be working as advertised. The network and DDNS services seem to work well although installation across a wireless LAN was not for the faint of heart.(Hint - to use the client viewer within your LAN, use your internal IP address, not your DDNS.)I had to figure out port forwarding and related issues on my own, as I never did get a response from "customer service."Picture resolution (esp. IR) is a little grainy but within tolerance. The network client / viewer is a little simplistic and could use an upgrade. The software interface with the DVR is very elementary and could use a major upgrade, but again, within tolerance.I would probably buy it again.Overall I would give this unit a solid B, but I would give Lorex customer service a failing grade.

Q-See 4-Channel DVR with Motion Detection - Black (QSD004) Review

Q-See 4-Channel DVR with Motion Detection - Black (QSD004)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these along with my neighbor from another site about a year ago.The motion detection is absolutely useless, so if you really want that feature buy another DVR.The remote control isn't intuitive at all so it makes it a little annoying to navigate the menus. If you have less than 4 cameras, you can disable the unused video inputs but when you set it to auto cycle through all the cameras, it still shows the blank blue screen for those inputs.Since this is an entry level CCTV DVR, it doesn't multitask, which means you have to stop recording to playback recordings.Other than those complaints the DVR works fairly well.Once in a while when the power goes out, when the DVR starts up it prompts to recover the HD where it left off, I'm not real sure what that means but it will stay at that prompt forever until you answer the question, which means if it happens while you're on vacation there goes your security system until you get back to say YES.This sounds like a negative review but for the price this isn't too bad of a choice. If you can find a DVR with functional motion detection for around this price, I'd get that one instead.

4 Channel USB 2.0 DVR for PC Notebook Digital Video Security System 1OZ Review

4 Channel USB 2.0 DVR for PC Notebook Digital Video Security System 1OZ
Average Reviews:

First of all, don't use the included CD. I think they included the wrong driver, and I emailed VideoSecu about it and they sent a link with the updated software. Here is the url to the software:
[...].

EDIT: It looks like it blocks external links (and it won't let me put it in my profile), so email me for the correct one.

EDIT 2: You cannot get remote monitoring on smart phones with this model. Instead, you have to get the PCI DVR from Q-See: Q-See QSDT4PCRC 4 Channel H.264 PCI DVR Card They said it works with Win Mobile Pro, Symbian OS and iPhones.

Once I installed that, it worked perfectly. The most awesome thing about it is you can control Pan/Tilt/Zoom functions and watch the live camera feed remotely. You can also download your recordings remotely (but be sure to use Internet Explorer, because the remote monitoring software requires ActiveX).

The motion detection and alarm features are also very nice. You can make it record when motion is detected so you don't have the scrub through hours of recording nothing. You can also make it email you when motion is detected, and it can even attach a snapshot of what set off the motion alarm.

The frame rate may stutter a lot when you are using more than two video inputs, but the recording quality is not affected. You also want to be sure that if your cameras are wireless that there is a clean signal with no interference or disturbances. Any bit of interference will set off the motion alarm, and it will record nothing interesting (unless you find static fascinating).

Another thing; the DVR software does NOT work on 64 bit systems (but the remote monitoring will).

For someone who wants a basic standalone DVR system this is the one for you.I bought this DVR to tryout so that I can evaluate the quality of the systems from Q-see. This DVR is fairly straight forward to setup and I noticed that the board also had an IDE port which was not on the specs (not that it matters much since SATA is cheaper). It is constructed quite well and does not "feel" flimsy.

I did not test the networking functions yet but so far my only disappointment was the motion detection. It DOES NOT work well. Don't even bother trying all the different settings. I left mines on record all the time :(

A better buy would be the Q-See QSDR008RTC which is an 8-channel DVR and it is not that much more expensive.

Beware that this DVR DOES NOT have a VGA port so good luck trying to connect it to a computer monitor. Buy this product if you want to output to a TV alone (2 outputs are supported).

Satisfactory product, hardware is great, software is weak. Would be nice if clearer to explain only records on one channel at a time, even though you can view all 4 channels. GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole
Average Reviews:

I bought my IntelliCorder because I had been experiencing some hangups and increased traffic outside my apartment door.Because my apartment complex is built like a hotel with enclosed walls and a lot of lighting in the hallway plus I can't drill any holes or didn't want to deal with any wires, I thought I would be a good candidate for this device.I installed the Intellicorder through my apartment's peephole and set it to Record where it would turn on and record activity (with sound) outside my door any time someone walked in front of it. In my case, I caught an intruder picking the lock to my apartment, entering my apartment and then locking it back up upon leaving (I am ordering a Wireless Alarm as we speak). The Intellicorder's time stamp device was good b/c it was able to tell me and the Police how long the intruder was inside and to know how long it took the intruder to pick the lock. The best parts of all was the clear picture of the intruder's face, the device was undetected by the intruder and I was able to email the police copies of the recordings (and they were pretty impressed with the device!)The only bad thing I can say about the device is that the Intellicorder produces the the recordings in an .AVI format and most Windows based computers can't read/view these types of files so you have to download the free .AVI reader from the website that GE recommends in their instructions (from divx.com) and tell other people (like the Police) how to download the reader. I wish they could enhance the next version of the Intellicorder device to choose the video format you want like .mpeg. I will post my copies of the recordings once the police moves a bit further in my case against the intruder but this device was well worth the money.

The DVR operateswell and is straight forward to connect. The remote control on the other hand is a little bizarre when it comes to navigating through the on screen set-up. The instruction book was obviously translated from another language so it can be challenging to understand. The cameras are small and nice looking but have mediocre video quality. You won't be able to read a license plate but you can definitely see what happened to know where to look for finger prints. Not bad for a 4 camera DVR under $500.

It works a lot better than my old QSD004.I have it all configured and port forwarded to my Internet IP with its on port.I can view it from the Net anywhere I wish and can control the settings. One thing I did notice is the web manager interface uses ACTIVEX, which was a pain is the *** at first.Im a big firefox fan and use that browser..so now i have to use explorer to view my system.I bought a very cheap 500gb sata drive for this at newegg for 40 bucks. Good system for the price and lots of features.I recommend it, would have got 5 stars but email setup seems not to be functional at this time..see below.

Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring and Recording System with 4 Weatherproof Mini Cameras (Black) Review

Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring and Recording System with 4 Weatherproof Mini Cameras
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent the better part of a day installing, setting up, and experimenting with the Archerfish Quattro Interactive Video Monitoring system. My conclusion is that the hardware seems to be solid and reliable but that without a service subscription of $8/mo the product has limited use and appeal. The only features available without a service subscription are viewing recorded video (DVR) and live video. The event detection features that make the Archerfish different are not available. The box itself is pretty locked down and is not accessible in ANY WAY AT ALL from your local lan.

Combined with an extremely high up-front cost (approx $1,000 - $1,200) it's difficult to recommend it. What follow are some of my more detailed notes:

Packaging Contents
*Everything needed is included in the box: AC Adapters, cables, ethernet cable
*No printed instructions in the box but everything is easily available on linePhysical Setup
*Easy to setup/connect cables
*Camera mount needs wrench since they can't be threaded by hand
*Cameras have big bulky heavy adapters instead of lighter ones.
*No easy way to mount cameras level. No visual indicators on camera and video delays makes it tougher
*5 separate AC adaptors! Instead of powering cameras from receiver they need to be powered individually with their own AC AdapterRegistration
*Must provide credit card even for the basic subscription or the free 3 month subscriptionSoftware Setup
*Can't setup a static ip for the device.
*It does not seem to be possible to access the device directly via your local LAN.
*All access must be through the Archerfish website
*Even with UPNP turned off it's very easy to configure your firewall and only one NAT rule is needed to be able to what video remotelyUse
*Only one camera available for live video at a time. It really would have been nice to see all cameras at once.
*There are long delays for live video 5-6 sec from local 8+ seconds from internet
*No way to just use this on local network to view the cameras. Everything needs to be done from the Archerfish website.
*Only records to external USB. No hard drive. limited online storage
*The external USB device is formatted with an ext3 file system. It's a pain for windows users because they can't read this format by default.Event Configuration
*Up to 3 zones per camera can be established.
*Events are only on a per day range (intra is possible) and cannot overlap. You need to add multiple zones for the same range.
*No notifications or search or motion etc. w/o premium subscriptionPricing
*Amazon $1200
*If purchased independently from Amazon the four cameras would cost $260 - $330 (including all accessories)
*$870 ($1200 - $330) is a lot to pay for a device that has no hard drive, cannot be accessed from your network, and requires a paid subscription to make use of all of its

features and reliance on a the vendor to use at all. Imagine buying a computer and only being able to use it as long as the company was in business and offered a service.Quality
*Video quality is Ok. Nothing great. Some of the other cameras I have used from Axis offer much, much better video quality
*No audio. This might be fine for surveillance but home users may be interested in Audio since this can be useful as a baby monitor or a monitor inside the home.Security and Privacy
*All of the video that is recorded by the Quattro (except for the DVR function where it just records all the cams all the time) is stored on the Archerfish website.
*Archerfish does not provide any information about how they safeguard the data. All they say is that their portal is secure and their servers are hosted.
*There is no mention of encryption

Q-See QSPDVR04 4 Channel Digital Video Recorder PCI Card Review

Q-See QSPDVR04 4 Channel Digital Video Recorder PCI Card
Average Reviews:

*** UPDATE 5/4/08: After over 1 year of use, I've made a few updates to the review. Overall, still very happy! Just wanted to add some more useful information and minor updates. ***

I'm currently using 2 QSPDVR04 PCI cards along with 8 various Q-See camears. The maximum is 4 PCI cards (16 channels) per system. The box includes the software, users guide, pci card, and 4 BNC -> RCA adapters (the 4 connectors on the card itself are BNC (video only). The RCA adapters are only used for the low-end camears - which don't normally work that well anyways. Also note that the Q-See hardware and software both appears to be identical to the Swann gear.

I do suggest a much better system than their minimum requirements, especially if you are going to use more than 1 PCI card. In my case, the 2 cards are installed in a Dell Optiplex GX280, P4 2.4Ghz, 2GB of RAM, and 250GB HD. It's a relatively cheap system and has been dedicated as a DVR PC for the cameras. I originally had a slower PIII 1GHz system doing the job, but when I added a 2nd PCI card, that was a little too much for the old Dell. While this is still well above the min sys requirements, it's still a good idea to make use of the "scheduled reboot" feature if you notice things getting sluggish after awhile. This is possibly due to some bugs in the s/w and may be fixed in the future. I always install the latest software from the website - very important.

I'm using the remote web playback/recording software so 4 other computers in the house can monitor the cameras in realtime as well as PC's located outside of the house, via the Internet (may need to make changes to your router). I should also inform you that some of the "advanced" features may require a bit of time to figure out for novice PC users. Especially considering the manual looks as though it was written in another language and then poorly translated into English.

I have a few cameras connected to these cards. (1) QSVC456C camera, (3) QS2350C cameras, (2) QOCDC cameras, and (2) QPSCDCA indoor only cameras. The DVR software is setup to record 24/7 as well as make note of motion detection. This allows me to either playback everything, or just video where motion was detected. But thanks to a 250GB HD, it can record for months without running out of space. The card is only able to capture 7 FPS for each camera (30fps total). This also applies to watching video in realtime. So images will appear "choppy," which is expected for something in this price range. It's honestly not a big issue though.

The recorded image quality is fairly good, at a maximum of 640x480 resolution it works well for home surveillance. Just don't expect to zoom into a licence plate 100 ft away like you see on TV. :) The software also allows you choose several viewing options, such as auto scroll mode that goes through each camera, in full screen, one at a time. Or, display them all at once on the screen in various formats. You have the ability to set recording to schedule, manual, and/or motion detection (the sensitivity is adjustable).

The playback software works very well. Just select a date, then scroll through the time to pick the spot you want to watch. You can watch 1 camera at a time, all of them at once, or pick the ones you want. It's similar to other video editing software that you have likely seen on your PC. The only negative here is that if you want to watch it play back in realtime, the the fastest it will go is 4x. The use of 'motion recording' is recommended due to this over sight. I'm hoping a software update will fix this important "feature."

Pros:

* Very inexpensive DVR PCI Card
* Easy installation
* Basic but very functional software
* Expandable up to 4 PCI cards
* Good video playback/record quality.
* Remote software for Live/Recorded playback via LAN/WAN.

Cons:

* Advanced features may confuse some users
* Manual needs to be re-writting in "English"
* Fast Forward needs to be drastically increased
* 30fps shared between 4 cameras

Bottom line: while there are better dedicated DVR's and PCI DVR's out there - considering the price and functionality of the QSPDVR04, I rate this card at 5 stars, and consider it highly recommended for and home/small business surveillance. Even though I didn't have any issues with the card or software, keep in mind that I am a very technical user. If you don't feel comfortable opening your PC or are a novice user - be sure to read the users guide on the Q-See site before purchase to make sure you know what you're getting into. :)
