Micro Telephone Recorder Review

Micro Telephone Recorder

The P5045 Telephone Recorder is a very good unit for the money. It records both sides of a telephone conversation with good clarity. What is really great about this unit is the simple hook up. Just plug it into a vacant phone jack and set the unit to VOX and press the record button and it starts recording as soon as the phone is answered. It also cuts off as soon as the call has ended. It uses only one wire from the jack to the recorder if using 2 AA batteries (not included) so you don't have a bunch of wires running all over the place. I highly recommend this unit if you want to don't want to spend a lot of money on a telephone recorder.

Olympus DS2000 Digital Voice Recorder Review

Olympus DS2000 Digital Voice Recorder

Digital is so much better, right? Well, this misstep from Olympus didn't sound any better at all than my Olympus analog (microcassette) recorder. There was a very noticeable hiss during playback, and in order to hear my recording without laying the speaker almost directly against my ear, I had to turn the volume up past the point of distortion. Consider the fact that I am a Pentecostal preacher, and you might get the idea. As loudly as I speak, I shouldn't have to turn the thing up so high. This wouldn't be bad for a $50 recorder, but at ($$$), this is just a couple steps below robbery! I used the highest quality mode, and both high and low mic sensitivity, but the results were just not acceptable. It was on its way back within 72 hours. I liked the size, weight and the features, but the poor playback, combined with the low-wattage speaker, killed this recorder for me, at least at it's retail price. It's one strong feature is that you can connect it directly to a PC (no need for a card reader), but again, that just wasn't enough to save it from the return process.
Olympus makes the best ANALOG recorders, by my ears, but digitally, they have left much to be desired. If you want to spend ($$$) on a digital recorder, I'd highly recommend the Sony ICD-MS1. Same price (the one without the voice recognition software), basically the same features (except direct PC connection), but much better sound, I mean very much better.

It seems like it has the right idea, but the adapter for the telephone jack in the wall didn't work, and the recorder shuts off after about 90 seconds, (you can't record calls longer then 90 seconds without manually restarting the machine).Overall, it's been a hassle so far, and I'm not happy with it.I'm hoping this is only specific to the machine I got, and am hoping the company I got it from will exchange it.

UPDATE:Only after a TON of hassle from the company (who did not want to honor their exchange policy) I finally was able to get a new machine.Which has now also broken.Don't buy this product...and buyer beware if you buy from this seller.

This works as advertised.I discovered that if I placed my regular microphone in my ear, it would do the same thing so really did not need this piece, however that's my fault not the manufacturer's.

This interface plugs into the same jack as the headset and not the main line. At first this was confusing. However, once I figured that out all went well. The sound quality was as good as the phone receiver and it was easy to use with my laptop computer. For the cost, this was an unbeatable solution to the problem of recording meetings in an efficent and easy way.

P3 P5090 LCD Telephone Recorder with Caller ID Review

P3 P5090 LCD Telephone Recorder with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

Awful - cheap, volume doesn't go very high, eject takes forever and makes horrible scrunching sound every time you close it no matter how slowly, buttons depress so hard I had to use my thumb, if you don't push down hard and hold buttons the tape tries to move but doesn't, the machine keeps stopping in the middle of playback, had to keep resetting every time I unplugged it (and the reset button on the bottom of the machine, need a pointed pen or something to push it) - enough?! Amazon nicely took it back, offered me refund or replacement - I need a recorder for work, so am desparate and opted for the replacement. Buttons on new one work quite a bit better and it doesn't keep shutting off during playback, eject process not quite so bad - BUT, it's still cheaply made and doesn't work nearly as smoothly as my 15-year-old Radio Shack recorder. So don't buy this unless you can't find another (I couldn't - radio shack doesn't have similar product anymore).

1. Olympus doesn't provide drivers online. Why not? It's not like they have any value if you haven't purchased the player already.

2. The VN series is evidently not compatible with Windows Vista. It won't let me reinstall the drivers.

3. The forced file hierarchy (A, B, C groups) is dumb and causes problems. Why can't I just plug it in and drag/drop your files in Windows Explorer?

4. When you speak, S's pop even when you're a couple of feet away.

I wish I had purchased another brand.

Tt System Tele-recorder Adapter Review

This product won't win any beauty contests, but it does a great job interfacing with a standard telephone and any recording device with the appropriate jack. I use it for work and it's incredibly reliable.

It only records the left channel of audio, however, which makes any recording kinda lop-sided if you listen to it through headphones later. I have to admit: I've never tried the "play" setting and couldn't tell you if it works. But honestly: You're recording your phone call to a tape-deck/mp3 player/md recorder. You're probably going to end up using that machine's capabilities to play it back - not this adapter.

The level of the recording is just a bit quieter than you think it should be, but the quality is fine.

Sony ICDP620 Digital Voice Recorder PC Compatible via USB Review

Sony ICDP620 Digital Voice Recorder PC Compatible via USB

Voice recorders are an interesting thing -- you may have noticed that even Sony has difficulty distinguishing between the higher end ($300+) and the lower end models.(One of the extra features, incidentally, was "An On/Off Switch").Usually the higher end models have better sound, supposedly, but we all know how insignificant that is in the scheme of things, unless we are idiots (i.e. "audiophiles").Memory is not an issue -- I still have 50+ hours left on mine.Sometimes, the more expensive ones come with a metal housing, which I suppose is nice.

I use this for recording notes, and it does a superb job.I wish it had a backlight, but it has a small light to tell you whether its paused (blinking) or recording(red) or playing(green) and so it works well in the dark.

I thought I needed a rewind and overwrite and append function (which this recorder has -- but there is a trick to using the overwrite quickly -- you have to make sure its not the very last "track", so you can start rewinding from the start of the next track) but I end up using it very little. It has a pause function, which lets you pace yourself as you think.

The main thing that makes this better than the Olympus recorders is the overwrite/append function (but no insertion), but I really don't use it that much, I could probably live without. But, other than that, it seems as if digital voice recorders have reached a plateau, so that even these cheaper units are extremely useful, almost indistinguishable from the more expensive ones.

So, from the standpoint of someone who wanted to get away from the journal or the computer, and go for walks while thinking, this is great, and I can honestly say it has changed my life.

Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording Device Review

Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording Device
Average Reviews:

i needed to record a cell phone conversation and this was the absolute cheapest way to do it. the earpiece has a microphone on the opposite side that records what is being said by whomever you're talking to, plus your voice (a bit louder). i bought it friday and it got to my house by monday. amazing.

one thing: this mic doesn't have its own power source, so whatever recording device you plug it into must be able to supply power. i used an olympus VN-2100 digital recorder and it worked almost flawlessly. i say almost because the mic doesn't record in stereo, it records in mono. but the record volume is loud and comes out very very clear even if the earpiece/mic isn't right on top of the phone receiver.

you will not be able to do this any better for the money. a lot of online spy shops are charging $200 or more for this same function. i got this mic (which will record cell phone and land line conversations) plus a digital recorder for under $50.
