I did not receive the correct item since the reseller misappropriated the item. Basically, what is advertised on Amazon does not coincide with J&R Music's website. Therefore, making room for misrepresentation and communication error.

Olympus ME 30W - Microphone Review

I bought these to record live pipe organ performances. The pipe organ has a gigantic frequency range, but these little microphones record the sound perfectly. When I listen to recordings made through these microphones and the Olympus LS-10 digital recorder, the pipe organ sounds exactly the same as hearing it live...and I should know, I've been playing that pipe organ every week for five years!

Expensive, but worth every penny.

DO NOT BUY THIS MICROPHONE IF YOU CARE ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE ACTUALLY RECORDING A SESSION OR NOT.Steer clear!!!These mikes might look great, but of what use are they when they need a battery and there is no low battery indicator? There is absolutely no way to know that you're not getting a recording until you try to play something back and there's nothing there or it's faint sounding. What a useless microphone!! You also have to turn the microphone on and off on the bottom which is difficult to do because of the switch design and if you forget to turn it off, you'll run your battery down.Arrh!!This is the worst waste of money of my whole life...Thankfully, I only bought two, and they are not terribly expensive.

As a court repoorter, I'm always looking for new equipment and thought I would try these mikes for court as they looked low key and would be a nice addition to my microphone stable.I didn't see in the specs that they also require batteries (which by the way, don't come with the microphones) and I bought them only to find they would be of no use to me in my work as I can't run the risk of not getting a perfect recording each time.

Do not buy these microphones -- any microphone that needs independent batteries and doesn't have a low battery indicator is worthless.I highly recommend the Labtec VERSE 333 MON MOUNT MIC ( 980184-0403 ) which are available on Amazon and are cheaper than the Sony. They have identical plugs and are about the same size.I have three of them and they work great.I have never had a problem.I take down courtrooms, public meetings in large rooms, depositions -- and I get everything clearly enough to be able to provide a perfect transcript to my clients.

Olympus DS2000 Digital Voice Recorder Review

Olympus DS2000 Digital Voice Recorder

Digital is so much better, right? Well, this misstep from Olympus didn't sound any better at all than my Olympus analog (microcassette) recorder. There was a very noticeable hiss during playback, and in order to hear my recording without laying the speaker almost directly against my ear, I had to turn the volume up past the point of distortion. Consider the fact that I am a Pentecostal preacher, and you might get the idea. As loudly as I speak, I shouldn't have to turn the thing up so high. This wouldn't be bad for a $50 recorder, but at ($$$), this is just a couple steps below robbery! I used the highest quality mode, and both high and low mic sensitivity, but the results were just not acceptable. It was on its way back within 72 hours. I liked the size, weight and the features, but the poor playback, combined with the low-wattage speaker, killed this recorder for me, at least at it's retail price. It's one strong feature is that you can connect it directly to a PC (no need for a card reader), but again, that just wasn't enough to save it from the return process.
Olympus makes the best ANALOG recorders, by my ears, but digitally, they have left much to be desired. If you want to spend ($$$) on a digital recorder, I'd highly recommend the Sony ICD-MS1. Same price (the one without the voice recognition software), basically the same features (except direct PC connection), but much better sound, I mean very much better.

P3 P5090 LCD Telephone Recorder with Caller ID Review

P3 P5090 LCD Telephone Recorder with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Awful - cheap, volume doesn't go very high, eject takes forever and makes horrible scrunching sound every time you close it no matter how slowly, buttons depress so hard I had to use my thumb, if you don't push down hard and hold buttons the tape tries to move but doesn't, the machine keeps stopping in the middle of playback, had to keep resetting every time I unplugged it (and the reset button on the bottom of the machine, need a pointed pen or something to push it) - enough?! Amazon nicely took it back, offered me refund or replacement - I need a recorder for work, so am desparate and opted for the replacement. Buttons on new one work quite a bit better and it doesn't keep shutting off during playback, eject process not quite so bad - BUT, it's still cheaply made and doesn't work nearly as smoothly as my 15-year-old Radio Shack recorder. So don't buy this unless you can't find another (I couldn't - radio shack doesn't have similar product anymore).

Sony ECM-DS70P Electret Condenser Stereo Microphone Review

Sony ECM-DS70P Electret Condenser Stereo Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recommend the Sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone.

This mic is great to use with the Sony Mini disc recorders such as MZ-N707 and up.Although it is referred as uni directional, I have found the stereo separation very good.

As you are recording yourself with other singers for example you distinctly hear the vocal separation or instrument separation on playback so, then you can get an interesting separated sound by adjusting the mike direction.

So, even though the L and R mics are close together they must be facing in different directions to get that quality of separation.

There probably are better mikes, and I am sure they cost more money.I am critical of what sound goes in my ears, and this is excellent for my needs, which is self recording, recording voice lessons, live performances etc.

I hope this review was helpful.

Tt System Tele-recorder Adapter Review

Tt System Tele-recorder Adapter

This product won't win any beauty contests, but it does a great job interfacing with a standard telephone and any recording device with the appropriate jack. I use it for work and it's incredibly reliable.

It only records the left channel of audio, however, which makes any recording kinda lop-sided if you listen to it through headphones later. I have to admit: I've never tried the "play" setting and couldn't tell you if it works. But honestly: You're recording your phone call to a tape-deck/mp3 player/md recorder. You're probably going to end up using that machine's capabilities to play it back - not this adapter.

The level of the recording is just a bit quieter than you think it should be, but the quality is fine.

I bought a couple of microphones looking to replace my Plantronics .Audio desktop microphone. Of them were the Koss M-18, Logitech USB Desktop, and this one.

This Olympus was the cheapest of the 3.It's sensitivity is a little low. This helps with canceling a lot of background noise & makes sense as the primary purpose of this mic was usage with digital recorders. However, any dictation where the source is further than 10 inches may not record clearly.

I was using the mic with my PC audio card so results may vary when using it with the suggested Olympus recorders.

RCA RP3503 "Shoebox" Cassette Voice Recorder Review

RCA RP3503 'Shoebox' Cassette Voice Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'll preface my review by stating that if I were searching for a high quality voice recorder I would have gone with a brand other than RCA.However, I needed an inexpensive unit which my two young children could operate without much difficulty, and one that played music cassettes. This one does the trick. It is light, compact and easy to use, the sound is decent, the microphone keeps them entertained since they can record their own voices on tape, and the unit operates on both battery or A/C which means I can tote it along in the car to keep them busy. I searched all over for the actual toddler tough versions of these tape recorders which were sold a few years back, Fisher Price or Playskool I believe, but it seems that technology caught up to even the little kids' toys and the units are all CD or MP3 now, which my children don't yet use. This cassette recorder suits our needs just fine for now, and at an affordable price.

We bought this to use with our WS-300M to record a class. We thought the stereo would result in a better quality recording. In the end, we set the recorder to MONO (HQ) because the speaker moves his head and the sound travels from one channel to the other! Good quality but distracting. Save your money and buy the mono mic. The quality is excellent in either setting.
Buy the way, in case you miss it, this mic does come with a cable to connect it to the recorder.

Olympus ME-52W Noise Canceling Microphone Review

Olympus ME-52W Noise Canceling Microphone
Average Reviews:

For a cheapo microphone, I was pleasantly surpised with how well this worked at picking up speakers who were a distance away. You may have to adjust the sensitivity of the recorder, because the sensitivity of this mic is significantly higher than the built-in stereo mic, and recording to 'hot' will result in garbled, distorted sound.

The Olympus recorders seem to select sensitivity with labels like 'dictate' and 'conference', where 'conference' would normally be used in a distant recording situation but if the record bar hits the right side of the screen you want to set it to the lower sensitivity mode 'dictate'. In any case, with this (mono) mic you should change your recording mode to Mono so you can get double the record time.

Olympus TP-7 Telephone Recording Device Review

i needed to record a cell phone conversation and this was the absolute cheapest way to do it. the earpiece has a microphone on the opposite side that records what is being said by whomever you're talking to, plus your voice (a bit louder). i bought it friday and it got to my house by monday. amazing.

one thing: this mic doesn't have its own power source, so whatever recording device you plug it into must be able to supply power. i used an olympus VN-2100 digital recorder and it worked almost flawlessly. i say almost because the mic doesn't record in stereo, it records in mono. but the record volume is loud and comes out very very clear even if the earpiece/mic isn't right on top of the phone receiver.

you will not be able to do this any better for the money. a lot of online spy shops are charging $200 or more for this same function. i got this mic (which will record cell phone and land line conversations) plus a digital recorder for under $50.
